Q & A

Why did you choose your profession?

I was fascinated by how technology was impacting video production. I spent my early career working with the new technology to discover new ways that it could be used. This culminated in my working as an editor in Hollywood. I soon learned that the technicians that serviced the editorial systems had better hours and more consistent pay. I moved into that area and then followed where the technology was going to end up at Apple Inc.

Who is the one person who has done the most to shape you into who you are today? How was the person significant to you?

Don Priest who was my professor in my Television production courses at UC Fresno. He was a fellow veteran and was the calmest most stable men I had ever met. He taught me how to remain clam under pressure leading by example often. When chaos would rear its ugly head Don would gather everyone together and go around to each person and ask them what they needed to resolve the chaos that was taking place. When everyone had given their input, he would then offer solutions to what needed to be done. I use this often as I like to listen to all input before concluding what the best way might be.

What has been the greatest accomplishment of your life so far? Is there anything you wish to do better?

Getting the iPhone to be not only accepted but preferred in the healthcare industry for Nursing Communications. I collaborated with multiple engineering groups to figure out the solution.

I do wish I had the chops to become a better code writer. While I know enough to be dangerous I would like to get to a place where I was confident in my code writing abilities.

How would your peers and team members describe your responsiveness as a leader?

I would say that they would feel I am a very supportive team player that is happy to jump into what ever problem solving issue is at hand. I am a non badge person in that I do not like having notifications on my communication software. I do not like to not respond to email or text or phone. I feel that everyone’s time is valuable so therefore I need to honor that by responding as quickly and accurately as possible.
